L'azienda Torart, specializzata nella lavorazione del marmo tramite robot antropomorfi a 6 assi, presenta al Fuorisalone 2009 alcuni prodotti in tiratura limitata dal design ricercato ed organico. I prodotti sono firmati da diversi designer quali Emiliano Moretti, Filippo Tincolini e Emmanuel Babled. Le potenzialità di questa tecnologia sono interessantissime, per la vastità di forme realizzabili atte a valorizzare l'essenza organica della pietra. Di contro i costi per le lavorazioni richieste sono molto elevati e non permettono certo produzioni in grande serie. Si tratta tuttavia, a mio avviso, di uno stimolo molto interessante.

The company Torart , which is specializes in working marble with anthropomorphic robot with 6 axes, presented in the Fuorisalone 2009 some limited edition products witn an interesting and organic. The products are designed by different designers such as Emiliano Moretti, Filippo Tincolini and Emmanuel Babled. The potential of this technology is interesting because of the vastness of shapes feasible to exploit the essence of organic stone. By contrast the cost for this machining are very high and not allow certain products in large series. It is, however, in my opinion, a very attractive incentive.

Euroluce 2009 - "Malik" by Guido Vrola

Vorrei mostrare, a chi non avesse avuto modo di vederla dal vivo, un' altra mia lampada presentata all' Euroluce 2009. Si chiama "Malik" ed è realizzata per lo storico marchio Aureliano Toso del gruppo Firme di Vetro. Il suo design, come è evidente, non è organico. D'altro canto non ho la pretesesa di voler fare un design 100% organico. Ve la mostro, però, in questa sede perchè penso che risponda alla stessa aspirazione di cui ho sempre parlato riferendomi al design organico. L'aspirazione è quella di voler fare, in qualche modo, un design "eterno". So che è un'aspettativa forse esagerata ma essendo una "aspirazione" penso possa essere giustificata. Questa lampada è stata definita "neominimalista", termine che, peraltro, fino ad ora ha significato molto poco. Però penso che questo modo di disegnare forme minimaliste possa essere, nel suo piccolo, uno stile. Quello cui cerco di aspirare, parallelamente al design organico, è un "minimalismo addolcito", potremmo dire anche "femminile". Le geometrie sono elementari, ma non rudi e pungenti come quelle minimaliste appunto. Tutti gli spigoli sono arrotondati per renderla amichevole alla vista e al tatto e la fenditura centrale è un piccolo vezzo per rendere il prodotto distintivo e non freddo ed impersonale. La sua collocazione non è un ambiente asetticco, bensì giovane e colorato. Mi piacerebbe avere un vostro parere in merito, al di là del "mi piace" o "non mi piace", perchè questo blog è per me una fucina di idee e vorrei che lo fosse anche per chi legge. Fatemi sapere...

I would like to show to those who had not had the opportunity to see her live, an other lamp I made, presented at Euroluce 2009. It is called "Malik" and is made for the historic mark of Aureliano Toso of Firme di Vetro Group. Its design, as is obvious, is not organic. On the other hand I do not pretend to do a 100% organic design. I show it to you here because I think that responds to the aspiration of which I have spoken with reference to the organic design. The aspiration is to want to do, somehow, a design "eternal". I know it is an expectation perhaps exaggerated but being an "aspiration" I think it can be justified. This lamp was described as "neominimalist" a term which, however, up to now has meant very little. But I think that this way of designing minimalist forms may be, in his small, a style. That which I aspire to, in parallel with organic design, is a "softened minimalism", we could also say "female". The geometries are elementary, but not harsh and pungent as those minimalist. All edges are rounded to make it friendly to the eye and the touch and the central slit is a little habit to make the product distinctive and not cold and impersonal. Its location is not a aseptic, but young and colorful. I would like to have your opinion on this, different from "I like it" or "I do not like it" because this blog is for me a source of ideas and would like it to be even for the reader. Let me know ...

SALONE SATELLITE - Jang Won Yoon

Inizio questa mia carrellata relativa al Salone del Mobile 2009 partendo dal Salone Satellite e, in particolare, da quello che ritengo uno dei più interessanti tra i designer emergenti. Si tratta di Jang Won Yoon, designer di origine coreana che attualmente vive e lavora a Los Angeles. Tra le sue creazioni sedie e sgabelli dal design raffinato caratterizzate da linee spigolose e da una uniformità organica che le fa assomigliare a delle ossature robotiche. Apprezzabili in particolare gli sgabelli Blade e Sprint e la sedia Janus.

I start my series on the Salone del Mobile in 2009 from the Salone Satellite, and in particular, from what I consider one of the most interesting among the emerging designers. He is Jang Won Yoon, designer of Korean origin who now lives and works in Los Angeles. Among his creations from chairs and stools feature elegant design with spicules lines and an organic uniformity that makes them look like robotic bones. I particularly appreciate the "Blade" and "Sprint" stools and "Janus" chair.

PREVIEW Euroluce 2009 – Ross Lovegrove

Ross Lovegrove è un designer che ho sempre particolarmente ammirato. Il suo stile è quello che più si avvicina alla mia idea di design organico. In occasione del prossimo Euroluce, Lovegrove presenta "Cosmic Leafe", realizzata per Artemide, una lampada come sempre molto particolare. Il design è shoccante, le tecnologie utilizzate molto avanzate, la forma è, senza dubbio, organica. Il diffusore è un foglio di metacrilato trasparente texturizzato sostenuto da una struttura in acciaio cromato. Il corpo illuminante è in metallo stampato e verniciato.

Ross Lovegrove is a designer I have always particularly admired. His style is the one that comes closest to my idea of organic design. At the next Euroluce, Lovegrove presents "Cosmic Leafe", achieved for Artemide, a lamp, as always, very special. The design is shocking, the technology advanced, the shape is, no doubt, organic. The diffuser is a sheet of transparent textured methacrylate supported by a chromed steel structure. The luminaire is printed and painted metal.

PREVIEW Euroluce 2009 – “OVO” by Guido Vrola

In occasione della pasqua vi presento in anteprima questo mio progetto, realizzato in collaborazione con Selene Illuminazione, che sarà presentato a Milano al prossimo Euroluce. Il soggetto è l'uovo, l'origine di tutto, la massima espressione della natura ed essenza del design organico. Prima che ogni altra forma si sviluppi vi è l'uovo. Cosa vi sia al suo interno ve lo sveliamo sezionandolo su due lati. Le lampade della serie OVO, disponibili in diverse misure, sono in vetro soffiato incamiciato proposto internamente nei colori ambra, arancio o verde ed all’esterno sempre bianco.

In occasion of the Easter i present to you a preview of a my project, realized in collaboration with Selene Illuminazione, which will be presented in Milan in the next Euroluce. The subject is the egg, the origin of all, the ultimate expression of the nature and essence of the organic design. Before any other form develops there is the egg. What there is in it I reveal by sections on both sides. Lamps OVO series, available in various sizes, are blown glass proposed internally in colors of amber, orange or green and white outside.

PREVIEW Euroluce 2009 – Karim Rashid

Questa lampada è “la realizzazione di un sogno” - afferma Karim Rashid - che la disegnò a soli 19 anni, quando era ancora uno studente universitario. Fonte d’ispirazione la foglia, leggero elemento naturale che si muove al delicato soffio del vento e che viene qui interpretata come il prolungamento di un sottile ramo curvilineo. La sua silhouette è come un leggero tratto di penna, una fluida onda verticale, una forma zoomorfica che Rashid ama definire digital nature. Karim Rashid al prossimo salone di Milano propone qualcosa di diverso per Artemide e lo fa presentando un progetto tirato fuori da un cassetto. Quali altre sorprese ci riserverà l'eccentrico designer?

This lamp is the "realization of a dream" - says Karim Rashid - that drew it when he was just 19 years old, when he was still a university student. Source of inspiration the leaf, light natural element that moves to the gentle breath of wind and is interpreted here as an extension of a thin curved branch. Its silhouette is like a light stroke of a pen, a fluid wave vertical, a zoomorphic forms that define digital Rashid loves nature. Karim Rashid at the next exhibition in Milan offers something different for Artemide and makes it presenting a project pulled out of a drawer. What other surprises we reserve the eccentric designer?
